DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:20 P.M.) – 42 people were claimed dead on Monday following a US air raid on a prison in the ISIS-held Euphrates River town of Mayadin if one is to believe a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
According to the SOHR, none of the deceased people were ISIS combattants.
Meanwhile, a US representative said they were looking into reports of collateral damage on the Deir Ezzor town, said to be the new functioning capital for the Islamic State.
The US military did nevertheless confirm five sorties were conducted against ISIS across Deir Ezzor last Monday, but claimed oil tankers were the main targets.
The jihadist group is reportedly aware of which areas and buildings are targets for the US-led coalition’s warplanes and has in turn opted for a strategy involving human shields.
