The first Chinese aircraft carrier of its own production on Friday completed a five-day test voyage and will soon return to the port-city of Dalian in the Liaoning Province, the Central Television of China reported.

The aircraft carrier left its home base in Dalian on the morning of May 13 and spent five days conducting various maneuvers in a specially designated area for these purposes.

According to the television channel, the aircraft carrier fulfilled the goals set during this mission and the crew consistently checked various equipment of the vessel.

The second Chinese aircraft carrier Type 001A, which became the first of its own production, was launched in April 2017; it was built in 2013.

The length of the aircraft carrier is 315 meters 75 meters wide, weighs 70 thousand tons, and has a cruising speed of 31 sea knots.

The Chinese media reported that 36 Jian-15 fighter jets (J-15) could be based aboard.

The first Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning was built on the basis of the unfinished Soviet cruiser Varyag and bought from Ukraine in 1998.

Work on its transformation into an aircraft carrying cruiser began at the shipyard in Dalian, China in 2005.

The first sea trials of Liaoning took place in 2011.

It later joined the Chinese Navy in September 2012, and in November 2012, it was announced that a Jian-15 fighter jet had landed successfully on the deck of an aircraft carrier.
