At least 3000 Russian servicemen arrived at the northern Syrian city of Aleppo to help the Syrian Army fight jihadi groups in and around the embattled city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) claimed.

The UK-based monitoring group added that the Russian fighters have arrived over the past four weeks and transported to the government-held As-Safira city in the northeast of Aleppo.

Al Masdar News hasn’t been able to verify the authenticity of this claim.

Battles are expected to re-erupt after the 7-day nationwide ceasefire was declared officially over by the Syrian Army’s command due to repeated violations by rebel groups.

Why does Al Masdar News act as a mouth-piece for the SOHR???
This is not only lazy journalism, grossly hypocritical, but only serves established narrative against Syria!
Leith?

These are probably contract soldiers from Wagner group. Russia would never sent conscripts into this hellhole!

Not conscripts. These are, most likely, Wagner contractors. Also number of 3K is highly doubtful.

Unless they are Kadyrov’s fighters, I find it difficult to believe. If Kadyrov’s fighters are really in Syria, in such large numbers, than it will be an h**l for the jihadists.

From RI: “The Russian commandos are generally similar to their foreign counterparts with one major exception. Russian spetsnaz units contain a lot of conscripts, which is in sharp contrast to Western commandos who are all volunteer careerists. But the Russian spetsnaz conscripts were carefully selected and are volunteers for spetsnaz duty. While these conscript Spetsnaz are closer (in capabilities) to American Rangers, the career Spetsnaz are world class.”

In other words, they volunteer for duty in Syria, so they are not really conscripts.

That would serve no purpose other than to help the Kurds and Turkey. The SAA want ISIS to be a hassle for the other factions in the north, they don’t want ISIS crushed between them, the Turks and the Kurds, because then Turkey will advance south rapidly and fight the SAA on both north and southern fronts of Aleppo.
