Over the last 72 hours, the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda) have found themselves in a tense state after the recent capture of the Old Customs Building by the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division in the Al-Manishiyah Quarter of the Dara’a Al-Balad District.
On Saturday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) – continued their advance towards the Jamrak border-crossing into the Kingdom of Jordan, killing over 15 enemy combatants while also destroying 2 armored vehicles mounted with a 23mm anti-aircraft machine gun.
According to a military source at the 5th Armored Division headquarters inside the city of Izra’a, the Syrian Armed Forces advanced approximately 50 meters towards the Jamrak border-crossing, leaving them about 150 meters away from the Islamists last position at the border.
If the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and their allies (primarily, the National Defense Forces) capture the Jamrak border-crossing in the Dara’a Al-Balad District, they will have effectively retained their first border-crossing into Jordan since they lost the Nassib border-crossing to Jabhat Al-Nusra last year.
