In speaking at a conference in Tehran, President Rouhani emphasized that the destruction of Syria won’t strengthen the regional governments against it.
“Does the weakening of Syria benefit its Muslim neighbors? Does the destruction of Syria lead to the strengthening of Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates or other countries? Who is pleased by Syria’s destruction other than Israel,” Rouhani said.
Rouhani also questioned the way Saudi Arabia spent its petrodollars.
“How many bombs and missiles have you purchased from the U.S. in the past year. If you had distributed the same money among poor Muslims, none of them would have gone to bed hungry,” he said.
He also criticized the Saudi-led coalition aggression against Yemen. He highlighted that the war has only prompted a humanitarian crisis and greater poverty in Yemen.
