Hossam Qaweesh, spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet, has said that at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Johannesburg that Egypt has introduced 15 projects to the tune of $10 billion. The Chinese are interested in projects relating to the Suez Canal zone, especially those in relations to power generation, logistics, transportation and infrastructure.
Egypt’s Prime Minister Sherif Ismail met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday where they discussed these matters. The Chinese president will visit Egypt next month.
According to Qaweesh, Jinping highlighted the important relationship between him and Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and sympathizes with Egypt’s fight against terrorism.
Egyptian-Chinese cooperative relations will reach their 60th year anniversary next month, Qaweesh said.
This will help bolster an Egyptian economy devastated after its tourism industry was virtually destroyed overnight when ISIS destroyed a Russian passenger plane killing all 224 on board in the northern Sinai region.
