The Islamic State suffered heavy losses over the last 48 hours near the Tabqa Airbase in the Ar-Raqqa Governate. According to a source in Ar-Raqqa, over 200 members of the Islamic State have been killed amidst numerous air raids near the Tabqa Hospital, including an I.S. Emir and field commander. A substantial amount of Islamic State casualities were the result of a Syrian Arab Army ambush, where over 70 militants were killed.
Today, marks the 3rd attempt by the Islamic State to breakthrough the Syrian Arab Army’s frontline defenses at Tabqa. The Syrian Arab Army has conducted counter-operations near Safsaf Farms in order to create a buffer between the base and militants. Sources nearby have reported loud explosions sporadically through the day, many of which, are the result of Syrian Air Force bombardments.
As of 9:30 P.M. Damascus Time, fighting continues near the western corridor of the base, with no progression from the Islamic State fighters. I.S. field commander, ‘Umar Abdel-Rahman, a Tunisian national, was killed near the Tabqa Airbase today. Al-Masdar News will continue to report on the current events taking place at Tabqa Airbase.
