The Saudi Interior Ministry announced in a statement published on its website that it has shut part of the border in the northern and eastern provinces.
It has not been revealed why a 20km stretch of border has been closed.
Sahir bin Mohammed al-Harbi, the spokesman of the Saudi Border Guard, said on Saturday that all Saudi citizens have been warned not to approach the designated border areas.
Saudi Sabq reported that the city of Hafar al-Batin along with the towns of Ras al-Khafji, Rafha, Turaif and Alaoiqilah were the areas whose frontlines were closed.
Harbi said barriers and warning signs have been erected to keep people away.
Any violation of the rules will result in a staggering prosecution, imprisonment of 30 months, and fines of 250,000 SAR (66,670 USD).
