DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:45 P.M) – Overnight, jihadist insurgents in the northern ISIS-held Tal Afar enclave regrouped for a rare counter-attack in western Nineveh.

After assembling a large fighting force from the predominately Turkmen city of Tal Afar, ISIS belligerents stormed the town of Al-Mansiyah further west where they encountered entrenched Iraqi troops of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU).

After catching the PMU garrison off-guard, ISIS militants captured several prisoners of war and beheaded them on the spot.

Before retreating from the captured checkpoints, ISIS secured spoils of war, thus bringing home ammunition and weapons to the Islamic State stronghold.

This is another sign of ISIS desperation. These attacks, wherein they sneak behind the wide open front lines to a lightly defended targets of no strategic value solely for a propaganda video, illustrates that they cannot mount REAL attacks to achieve strategically important goals.

I was thinking that the “spoils of war” are quite pathetic. It shows how much they’ve fallen and how desperate they are, compared to their heydays when they ran multi-million dollar oil wells. Good signs!
