In Bulgaria, a US defense contractor was killed, 2 others severely wounded when a rocket-propelled grenade exploded early this week in a military range near the central village of Anevo. Two other Bulgarian officials were also injured in the explosion.
The contractors were testing weapons meant to be delivered to western-backed “Syria’s rebels” fighting the Syrian Arab Army within the Train & Equip Program to empower the militant.
“These guys were out there prepping (arms) for eventual transfer … for the Syria T&E (train and equip) effort,” said a U.S. military official who was speaking on condition of anonymity.
The United States has been supporting the Syrian armed militia in their bid to topple Syrian president Bashar Assad since March 2011.
