(AFP) French President Francois Hollande on Wednesday joined calls for international observers to oversee the evacuation of civilians trapped under fire in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

At a meeting with his defence cabinet, Hollande said those trapped by the fighting should “be evacuated in a dignified and safe manner, under the supervision of international observers and in the presence of humanitarian organisations,” the presidency said in a statement.

Hollande also demanded that the population of eastern Aleppo receive “unconditional aid and protection” and said only a negotiated political transition could lead to “a lasting victory over terrorism” in Syria.

The French statement echoed a call by the US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power, who said Tuesday that foreign observers should be allowed in to “oversee the safe evacuation of the people who wish to leave.”

French government spokesman Stephane Le Foll said France and Germany were pressing for the creation of humanitarian corridors allowing civilians out and aid agencies into the battered city.

France is totally irrelevant in World Politics these days. Hollande should retire quietly and spend more time with his mistresses.

Not even the French people care what he says anymore.

He’s very overlooked but actually did a great job on several points : just have a look how things turned in sub-saharian Africa in 2012 and how the situation is now : AQIM, al-Murabitun, An-Sardine, Boko Haram and some smaller ones had taken GIGANTIC swath of lands : just consider half of Mali, it made a territory +3x as big as Syria, add although very few showed in MSM, operations in Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and I surely forget some other +peace keeping in other areas, err, if there’s a western country that has results in the fight… Read more »

For my country, mmmm, possibly the same as is due in most Western countries, including France. The removal of most of the self styled elite who are totally corrupt and deviant, particularly in the un-elected echelons of the EU and the disbandment of NATO whose leadership post 1990 has hindered world peace and still is. As for Mali, I seem to recall some duplicity regarding terrorists that the French military let slip through their fingers as it suited their purpose with regard to the yellow cake uranium deposits. Rather like the US when thousands of ISIS are nowhere to be… Read more »

I don’t see what interest we may have to have roaches running around : it makes no sense : the uranium-ore mine in Arlit, Niger (near the Malian border) is exploited by AREVA, the french corp. You may have misunderstood : some that had managed to slip through in 2013 went hiding in Libya then retuned a few months later and attacked the mine. This is the 1st private job maker and 20% of our uranium comes from this mine. Not really our interest to have issues here and well, it’s not really the French use to create artificial chaos.… Read more »

That’s what they all say for 2000 years… Many also thought this about the Russians in 1991 😉

Read more »

Hmm, maybe this French idiot can “import” all these “moderate rebels” in his country and then lecture around how humane is he and his country. But then don’t complain when more of Paris and Nice attacks happen…

The only one of the Paris attackers which is still alive is the one captured by the Belgians, period. Now go ask the roaches that met the Foreign Legion in Mali, errr, are there still some to ask? 3x the size of Syria cleansed in 1 month…

Foreign Legion. Devil walks with us…
Difficult to have recent pics : such things are all classified for 50 years, French army is nicknamed ‘the big mute’, thus, if the Foreign Legion comes, when they leave, it’s likely to look like that :

Does Holland try to storm open doors or does he want to buy time for his “Friends of Syria” payed and equipped mercenaries?

p.s. The population receives aid and protection by Syria & Russia. Since when demand losers “negotiated political transition that could lead to “a lasting victory over terrorism” in Syria.” Does France threaten to continue support for terrorism in Syria if the Assad government does not step back?

Visibly, except for YPG, no arming or training for Nusra, Daesh and other scumbags. There was a little help from Sarkozy (which now is triple indicted in dirty affairs) at the very beginning of FSA but as soon he came to power, Hollande understanding that they were already hijacked by shithadists, has cut any support. “Does Holland try to storm open doors or does he want to buy time for his “Friends of Syria” payed and equipped mercenaries?” => Simply to regain some influence as, until US ‘squatted’ YPG, “creating” SDF -which technically already existed but wasn’t named-, France and… Read more »

Better clues than Sarkozy with Gaddafi. At least, while looking like supporting the US, he hasn’t done their dirty job as a proxy, specially after, like Sarkozy, having befriended Gaddafi then bombing him…

Yes! But in french, it has a different meaning : when you are polite, you show the index instead of the middle finger 😉
Thus, we innovated gestuals in the recent years :

This is called a “quenelle”.
You have heard about fist f*****g? This means you put your full arm in…
It replaced the “bras d’honneur” (arm of honnour)
