Hours after clearing 500 meters of land at the southeastern perimeter of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade of the Republican Guard – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the SAA’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division –  advanced to the strategic hilltop of Tal Kroum after a series of intense firefights with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade broke-through ISIS’ defenses in the Al-Thardeh Mountains, resulting in the aforementioned terrorist group’s massive withdrawal to Tal Kroum in the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s western countryside.

As a result of this advance by the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Brigade and their allies, the ISIS terrorists no longer have access to the southeastern gates of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, leaving them with only one direct route to the airbase and that is from the Artillery Battalion Base, which is located at  the southern flank.

January has not gotten off to a good start for ISIS in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, as their once promising offensive in this province has taken a turn for the worse.
