The Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) are off to a poor start in the Dara’a Governorate this year, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies have captured several sites that were firmly under rebel control last year.
On Friday morning, the Islamist rebels received some more bad news inside the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate, as the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) – seized the Old Customs Building that is located just 200 meters east of the Jamrak border-crossing into the Kingdom of Jordan.
Following the capture of the Old Customs Building near the Jamrak Border-Crossing, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade halted their advance in favor of the Syrian Arab Air Force’s powerful airstrikes that fractured the Islamist defenses by destroying the Free Syrian Army’s heavy weaponry.
The Jamrak border-crossing is located inside the Al-Manishiyah Quarter of the Dara’a Al-Balad District; it was originally captured in 2013 when the Islamist rebels launched a large offensive at the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate.
Should the Syrian Armed Forces retake the Jamrak border-crossing, they will finally have a border point with Jordan.
