Over the last 5 weeks in the Dara'a Governorate's northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army's 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division has been on the offensive inside the strategic city of Sheikh Miskeen, targeting the small pockets of resistance that remain under the control of the Islamist rebels in the southern district.
As of recently, the Syrian Arab Army's 15th Brigade has intensified their operations inside of Sheikh Miskeen, while the rival rebel groups fight one another over frivolous disputes in the city's outskirts.
The dispute between the Islamist rebel groups began when "Jaysh Al-Yarmouk" (Free Syrian Army group) accused "Harakat Muthana" of blocking supplies and reinforcements to Sheikh Miskeen; thus, allowing for the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies to seize much of the city.
Taking advantage of the rebel infighting was the Syrian Arab Army's 15th Brigade, who - together with the National Defense Forces and the 7th Mechanized Division - recaptured a number of neighborhoods in the southern district, leaving the Islamists from Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in a poor position near Sheikh Miskeen's outskirts.
According to a military source at the 5th Armored Division's headquarters in Izra'a, the Syrian Armed Forces have once again taken control of 75-80 percent of Sheikh Miskeen, despite repeated attempts by the Islamist rebels to reverse much of their gains.
