The Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) was busy on Thursday, launching several attacks that targeted the Syrian Arab Army’s defensive positions at the military airport and Jabal Thardeh inside the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

ISIS was repelled by the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport during the afternoon hours on Thursday; this forced the terrorist group to shift their attention to Jabal Thardeh in the province’s western countryside near the Damascus-Baghdad International Highway.

Undeterred by their first failed assault on Jabal Thardeh, ISIS launched their second wave of their attack in the late afternoon hours on Thursday, resulting in a intense series of firefights near the strategic hilltop of Tal Kroum and the 137th Brigade’s headquarters.

Unable to bypass the Syrian Arab Army’s stiff defenses near Tal Kroum, ISIS was forced to retreat once again after sustaining 22 casualties at the western perimeter of Jabal Thardeh.

According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, ISIS frantically retreated after Russian fighter jets began to bombard their reinforcement convoys that were attempting to back up their comrades battling the government forces.

All-in-all, the ISIS offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate on Thursday ended in disaster, as an estimated 50+ terrorists were killed during their battles with the government forces.
